Animal Explorer - 3D UI

Ultraleap Demo - Product Exploration

Overview

A demo built during a design sprint to explore how flat screen interactions could be made more engaging through the illusion of a 3D UI.

The goal was to build a demo that used 3D UI elements to communicate depth in the design. This was complemented by the camera view of the UI reacting to the position of the user in front of the screen to give an illusion of the 3D display.

The demo was built in the style of a museum exhibit with cute animals models and information.

Approach

Built with Unity and TouchFree for speed of prototyping. The UI used models were sculpted and painted in Nomad Sculpt.

The 3D model can be viewed from different angles by either moving your head relative to the screen or by spinning it with a hand motion. Elements like the shadow on the backdrop help to communicate the depth of the scene.

The "Favourite" button shows an exaggerated depth effect which reacts to the distance of your hand from the screen. This conveys the push actions required to trigger it.
